Sports tourism promotion

The professional cycling season opens in the Costa Brava-Girona with three UCI teams and fifty international racing cyclists.

JANUARY 2021

The 2021 professional cycling preseason starts in the Costa Brava-Girona destination with the arrival of two UCI World Tour teams, Israel Start-Up Nation and Canyon-SRAM, and a UCI Continental team, Massi Tactic, made up of a total of almost ninety people, including international professional racing cyclists and technical and management staff.

Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board’s Sports Tourism Club is supporting and collaborating with the UCI cycling teams to arrange three sporting visits to help reactivate the sector and strengthen the destination’s tourist positioning as highly specialised in cycling, following strict COVID-19 safety and prevention measures and in accordance with the current regulations governing official races in the global calendar.

The Tourist Board is working to promote professional and amateur sport in numerous disciplines both outdoors and in sports centres and facilities. The focus is on safe sport, with the aim of encouraging holidays and sporting stays as soon as the restrictions on mobility caused by the current pandemic are relaxed.

During 2021 the Tourist Board’s Sports Tourism Club will also be working on various actions for neighbouring international markets, aimed at clubs, tourist operators and specialised media. These include presentations of the competition calendar, commercial schedules and organising trips for influencers.
