Tourist Board returns to the ITB in Berlin, the MITT in Moscow, and IGTM Links international tourism fairs.

MARCH 2021

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 editions of the important professional trade fairs ITB and MITT had to be cancelled at short notice. This year, these events are up and running again and the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees destinations were present to publicise their tourist services and activities.

From 9 to 12 March the ITB fair in Berlin was held in virtual format and the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board –representing Girona’s various destinations and tourist businesses – and Lloret de Mar participated within Catalonia’s promotional space. This year, the Board attended talks on different themes of interest to the tourist industry, such as sustainability, post-pandemic tourism and its future. During the fair, several meetings were held with agents from the German tourist sector, including tour operators, travel agencies, media outlets and content creators.

In addition, from 16 to 18 March, this year’s edition of the MITT in Moscow took place as usual. It was the first major professional fair in the sector to be held in person since the start of the pandemic, and the Tourist Board and Lloret de Mar participated from the Catalonia stand. During the fair, the Board made contact with about sixty wholesale travel agencies from all over the Russian Federation and responded to numerous requests for information from end consumers interested in travelling to the province of Girona and asking about the protocols and entry restrictions that will apply for tourists from this country when the borders reopen and about the measures being taken by the destination to adapt to the current pandemic.

Finally, from 23 to 25 March IGTM Links, a special edition, was held in virtual format of the world’s leading professional golf fair, the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM). During this three-day event, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board’s Golf Marketing Club met with 38 tourist operators and travel agents –including Your Golf Travel, Go Golf and City 2 City– and specialised media –Simply Golf and National Club Golfer– from this industry. The next edition of IGTM will be an in-person event held in Wales in October.
