The county of La Garrotxa hosted the 2009 G! Awards, a great celebration for the tourism sector of the counties of Girona.

MARCH 2014

On 17th December, at the Principal Theatre of Olot, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona held the fourth G! Awards of the counties of Girona. This celebratory event was attended by more than one hundred people, including dignitaries, representatives of the tourism sector, of the general media and of the specialised tourism and gastronomic media.

During the ceremony, the President of the Patronat de Turisme, Enric Vilert, publicly announced that the 2010 G! Awards will include the Yvette Barbaza Award for Research, an announcement that he had already made in the ceremony paying tribute to this French geographer that took place on 11th December in Girona.

The honorary award winners of the 2009 G! Tourism Awards of the Counties of Girona were Baltasar Parera i Coll, recipient of the Josep Pujol i Aulí Career Achievements Award, and La Molina ski resort – Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, recipients of the Xiquet Sabater Company Project Award, due to their trailblazing work in snow tourism and for the organisation of world championships in snow sports.

The 2009 G! Tourism Communication Awards of the Counties of Girona have a monetary value and are split into various categories. The written media award went to the Catalan travel and tourism magazine Descobrir Catalunya for the series of articles it produced this year on various counties and destinations of the Costa Brava, due to their literary and graphic quality, and due to the great effort made to publicise and raise awareness of the area. The audiovisual media award went to Travelguru.tv, a British travel channel, for its production of the programmes A Guide to Girona Province and Walking and Cycling in Catalonia.

For the 4th G! Awards for Tourism Communication of the Counties of Girona, 60 pieces of work were received from nine different countries (Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, the UK, Switzerland, Belgium and the USA), including articles from the written press, radio productions and television productions.

During the awards ceremony, special recognition was given to the organisers of music festivals in the counties of Girona, coinciding with the celebration of the centenary of the musician and composer Isaac Albéniz. An award was presented to Jordi Berdala, director of the Isaac Albéniz Music Festival.

Through this tribute the Patronat de Turisme aims to support this event and to express, through the organisers of the Isaac Albéniz Festival, the tourism sector’s recognition of the work carried out by all the organisers of music festivals in the counties of Girona.

Following the ceremony, those present were invited to taste gastronomic products from the county of La Garrotxa produced by the Cuina Volànica collective of La Garrotxa.
