Showcasing Girona’s gastronomy

The Patronat de Turisme supports gastronomic campaigns, special days and fairs in the Girona area to showcase one of the destination’s main tourism assets and attractions.

MARCH 2014

Gastronomy is a key element of the cultural and heritage wealth represented by many of the world-renowned tourism products offered by Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destinations. Given its importance and the significant role that it plays in the tourism offer as a whole, especially in local tourism markets, in 2010 the Patronat de Turisme is contributing to the promotion and dissemination of gastronomy by supporting some thirty gastronomic initiatives and events on a municipal and county level, aimed at improving the competitiveness of the tourism sector while seeking the involvement of companies from the sector. The financial assistance provided by the Patronat de Turisme to towns, county councils, hotel and restaurant groups and gastronomic associations is allocated for gastronomic fairs, special days, campaigns and other initiatives that showcase the gastronomy of the counties of Girona as an outstanding quality tourism product. This year, 21,000 Euros have been earmarked by the Patronat for initiatives of this kind.

In spring 2010, the Patronat de Turisme signed collaboration agreements worth 33,000 Euros with the Empordà Gastronomy School, the Ripollès Catering School and the Girona Gastronomy School for the dissemination and promotion of Girona's gastronomy.
