Publication of the first poster of the Costa Brava tourism brand

The Patronat publishes the first documented promotional poster of the Costa Brava tourism brand.

MARCH 2014

To celebrate one hundred years since the Costa Brava name first appeared, the Patronat de Turisme is reprinting the first documented poster in which the Costa Brava name was used as a tourism brand. This work by Eduard Jener, one of the first advertising art directors in our country, is in keeping with the artistic movements of the time: modernism and the avant-garde.

It was published by the Catalan Tourism Office in around 1935, the year in which the Costa Brava Conference was held, in which all the mayors of the area, the Journalists’ Association, the Architects’ Association and other cultural agents such as the architects Josep M. Sert and Rafael Masó all took part. The aim of this conference was to establish an urban planning policy for the towns of the Costa Brava.

This poster forms part of the online catalogue put together as a result of the research study on the graphic image of the Costa Brava carried out by the University of Girona, commissioned by the Patronat de Turisme. The study was directed by the lecturer Dolors Vidal and Antoni Monturiol, restorer at the Girona Art Museum.
