Greater efforts to promote the destination in the South of France
Around thirty businesses from Girona carried out new marketing activities in two cities in southern France to publicise the region’s tourist destinations to the public and to the industry. On 20 May the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board held two promotional and marketing events in Toulouse, beginning with a workshop attended by around 30 business managers from Girona, mainly from the tourist accommodation, active and business tourism sectors, and some 40 French travel agents and event and incentive trip organisers, together with representatives of a dozen media channels. After the workshop, a presentation on the tourist destination was given to French travel agents and journalists, followed by a gourmet dinner prepared by the chefs of Michelin starred restaurant, Les Magnòlies d’Arbúcies. From 16 to 18 May, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, together with Lloret de Mar, Roses, Empuriabrava, the Peralada Group, Palafrugell and Vall d'En Bas, took part in the Village Catalan street fair organised by the Catalan Tourist Board. According to figures from the Enterprise and Labour Observatory, based on the Frontur and Egatur surveys carried out by the Institute of Tourism Studies (IET), 4.21 million French tourists visited Catalonia between April 2013 and March 2014, making France the region’s most important feeder market, followed by the United Kingdom with 1.6 million tourists, Germany with 1.3 million, Italy with 1.1 million and Russia with 982,000.
