Promotion of cruise ship tourism

Excellent prospects for the 2019 Costa Brava cruise season and participation at the leading trade fair of the industry, the Miami Seatrade Cruise.

APRIL 2019

The ports of Palamós and Roses forecast an influx of 60,000 passengers over the 2019 season, which entails an aggregate increase of 18% in the number of passengers and a 4.3-million-euro impact on the local economy. With regard to stopovers, the forecast is a total of 54, the same as the previous year. Palamós, on the one hand, estimates 54,000 passengers and 46 cruise ship stopovers by 9 lines, notably British Marella Cruises, with 26 stopovers. Roses, on the other hand, estimates 6,000 passengers, 4 lines and 8 cruise stopovers, with Crystal and Windstar shipping lines making their debut. Throughout 2019, the two ports will host 10 cruise companies, 70% of which are luxury liners; furthermore, there is a forecast of 87% of tourists travelling with standard companies. These figures support the promotion carried out with Costa Brava Cruise Ports. As far as the origin of the passengers is concerned, 77% are from the UK, 11% from the US and Canada and 3% from Germany among others. Within the promotional activity carried out by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board with Costa Brava Cruise Ports, we should point out the organisation of a familiarisation trip to the Costa Brava for the Product and Route manager of the Silversea company, in early April, and the participation, from 8 to 11 April, in the leading trade fair of the industry in Miami (USA), the Seatrade Cruise Global 2019, together with the ports of Palamós, Roses, Sant Carles de la Ràpita and their tourist destinations. Within the fair, the Board held meetings with the MedCruise association and cruise companies and associations, as well as networking events with members of the CLIA association.
