Press trips and familiarisation trips

11 press and familiarisation trips are organised

MARCH 2014

With the support of tourism organisations and companies from the Girona area, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board organised nine press trips in June with the goal of showcasing the destination to twenty journalists from Ukraine, Germany, Sweden, the UK, Holland and France.

Journalists from newspapers including Dagblad van het Noorden (Holland), Aftonbladet (Sweden), The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and The Financial Times (UK) made individual trips to the destination with the support of the Tourist Board, focusing on cultural and gastronomic aspects of the area. Other press trips organised by Spanish tourist offices abroad, tourism promotion centres in Catalonia and the Girona Campsite Association, brought groups of German, Russian and Ukrainian journalists to the Costa Brava who were interested in specific aspects of the destination’s offering in respect of campsites, golf, sports and nautical activities.

Meanwhile, two theme-based familiarisation trips were also organised in June for European tourism professionals. Specifically, the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau, in conjunction with the Catalunya Convention Bureau, the Centre for the Tourism Promotion of Catalonia in France and the Lloret Convention Bureau, invited 7 representatives of French event agencies to visit the Girona area to see at first hand the MICE tourism offering. Finally, the Tourist Board collaborated in the 14th Costa Brava - Catalonia Cuisine and Golf event, organised by the La Cuina de l’Empordanet culinary association, which brought together some 70 people, including journalists from Spain and abroad, chefs from Spain and well-known Costa Brava personalities.

July and August will see a reduction in the number of visits from tourism professionals and journalists; activity will resume in September.
