MARCH 2014

The travelling exhibition “Two looks at the area: Memories of the Costa Brava” by the photographers Francesc Català-Roca and Xavier Miserachs, promoted by the Caixa Girona Foundation, arrives at Palafrugell Municipal Theatre on 3rd July and can be visited until 26th July.

“Two looks at the area: Memories of the Costa Brava” is an exhibition composed of sixty photographs taken by the photographers Francesc Català-Roca and Xavier Miserachs. A striking contrast can be appreciated in the style and approach of the two photographers to the same theme: the Costa Brava area. In photography, land is an inseparable part of time and this combination creates the great photographic theme: memory. Space and time linked together give us an outline of history. This is the main purpose of these documentary photographers: to link space and time in order to present the specific circumstances between two historical points during the period of life that they shared as contemporaries.

The themed selection mainly focuses on the social aspects of the coastal towns and the beginning of the coexistence between traditional activities and new tourism uses. The interest of this exhibition’s content makes it likely that it will travel extensively around several towns on the Costa Brava itself, as well as throughout the rest of Spain and abroad.
