Palamós Port reaches the figure of 100,000 cruise ship passengers

Palamós Port has reached the figure of 100,000 cruise ship passengers, representing the number of passengers who have been welcomed by the port between 2000 and 2010.

MARCH 2014

On 5th July, Palamós Port welcomed its passenger number 100,000, from the Thomson Dream cruise ship. The welcoming ceremony for the passenger was attended by Àngel Planas, County Councillor of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Dolors Rodríguez, Director of Ports of the Catalan Government, Xavier Rivera, President of Palamós Chamber of Commerce, and Antoni Bachiller, Councillor for Tourism of Palamós Town Council.

Prize awarded to a British tourist

Passenger number 100,000 was a British tourist who arrived at Palamós Port on the Thomson Dream cruise ship. The Patronat de Turisme presented her with the gift of a weekend on the Costa Brava for two people. The tourism package included one night’s stay at a hotel and the chance to try two supplementary activities from a selection including sailing, kayaking and horse riding, among others. Meanwhile, the Town Council presented the gift of a meal out in one of the town’s restaurants, with the chance to try some Palamós prawns.

This ceremony was included in the programme of actions listed in the institutional agreement signed between the Catalan Government, Palamós Town Council, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona and Palamós Chamber of Commerce to boost cruise ship passenger traffic, attract new cruise companies, consolidate existing lines and cement the loyalty of companies who are already familiar with the Palamós brand. The plan is also aimed at fostering the development of the tourism offer associated with the cruise ship sector, encompassing the town of Palamós and its area of influence.
