MARCH 2014

Northern Spain's most important tourism fair, Navartur 2012, took place in Navarre from 17th to 19th February. The Patronat de Turisme and nine tourism towns and companies from the area –Blanes, Castell-Platja d’Aro, Calonge-Sant Antoni, Begur, Girona, La Vall d’en Bas, Alt Empordà County Council, the Tourist Apartment Association and the Burricleta company– attended Navartur and participated in a promotional initiative aimed at intermediary channels as part of a wide-ranging communication campaign to attract visitors to the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona. The communication and publicity campaign took place a few days before the fair and consisted of adverts and promotions on the Canal 6 TV station, in the Diario de Navarra newspaper and on the Cadena Ser Pamplona radio station.

Coinciding with the fair, the Patronat de Turisme held a destination presentation and networking event at La Capilla restaurant in Pamplona's Puerta del Camino Hotel. This work session, in which tourism organisations from the Girona area participated, was aimed at showcasing the destination's tourism products and services to travel agents from Pamplona and Navarre.

Eighty travel agents and media professionals from Navarre attended the presentation of the destination, which was given by the President of Girona Provincial Council and of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Jaume Torramadé, accompanied by Miquel Calm, Vice President of Girona Provincial Council, and Carles Pàramo, Mayor of Roses. The travel agencies taking part included Anavarra.com, a-viajar.com, Barceló Viajes, Descubriendo Mundo, Halcón, San Fermín, Iberia and Ezkaba Bidaiak. The media outlets covering the event were Canal 6 Navarra, Diario de Noticias de Navarra, TV Navarra, Popular TV and the Hostelería Navarra magazine.

The session was held as part of a special gastronomic meal prepared by chef Quim Casellas of the Micheli-starred Casamar restaurant in Llafranc, with the collaboration of the Cuina de l’Empordanet and Aula Gastronòmica de l’Empordà gastronomic associations. Guests were offered dishes of traditional Catalan cuisine and DO Empordà wines.
