Josep Roca’s iPhone wine menu app

The sommelier Josep Roca presents what he considers the most interesting wines in the world, including some from the D.O. Empordà, in an iPhone app.

MARCH 2014

La carta de vins de Josep RocaJosep Roca. The top 153 wines of 2010” is an app for iPhone or iPod users that offers a selection of 153 wines, complete with tasting notes and information on wineries and winemakers. The app is the culmination of research work that began in 2003. The project is a joint initiative by Josep Roca of the El Celler de Can Roca restaurant and Vowel Technologies. The Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona has joined the initiative as part of the Centenary of the Costa Brava.

On 15th June the wine menu was presented in an event attended by Enric Vilert, President of Girona Provincial Council and of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Roger Gilabert of Vowel Technologies and by Josep Roca himself. According to Enric Vilert, “this new product will make it possible to export all over the world the wines and expertise of Josep Roca, one of our most renowned sommeliers, while also promoting the tourist destination through the quality and authenticity of the wines of D.O. Empordà.” This view was endorsed by Josep Roca himself, who declared that “the aim of this wine menu, first developed in 2003, is to promote the products of our country, specifically the wines of the Denomination of Origin Empordà, which are comparable in terms of quality and reputation with those of Burgundy in France and Riesling in Germany.”

The Centenary of the Costa Brava has a noteworthy presence in this initiative since the app includes a slide that explains the commemoration in Catalan, Spanish and English. Through this collaboration the Patronat de Turisme continues to show its support for initiatives undertaken by gastronomic associations, collectives and companies for the creation of gastronomic tourism products that help to promote the counties of Girona.
