Instagram your city

The first "Instagram your city" competition generates more than 3,500 photographs on social networks and is viewed by 197,000 users.

The first gathering and competition of Instagramers, "Instagram your city", organised by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona with the support of Girona City Council, the County Council of El Gironès and the Girona Hotel and Restaurant Association, was held in Girona on 26th January, coinciding with the Girona10 event and bringing together 120 Instagramers who produced more than 3,500 photographs.

More than one hundred Instagramers signed up for the event. Over the course of Saturday morning and midday they were accompanied around Girona by official tour guides. Departing from the famous historical building that houses the Arab Baths of Girona, the tour took in Girona’s old quarter (the Call), the old city walls, the Eixample district and the shopping areas, ending up at the Lleó market. The competition focused on four key themes on which the promotion of the city is based: culture, nature, gastronomy and shopping.

Altogether, 200 users participated in the Saturday morning guided tour (photo walk) around Girona, generating 3,500 photographs on the Instagram network in two days. These photos were viewed by 197,000 users and obtained 80,700 likes.

The judging panel of the "Instagram your city" competition met to announce the prize winners in each category (culture, gastronomy, shopping and nature) of the Girona competition. The names of the winners were then published on Instagram @costabravapirineu with the label #InstaGirona #InCostaBrava #Girona10. The winners will enjoy stays in Girona in hotels such as the AC Palau de Bellavista, Nord 1901, Carlemany, Melià Girona or the Montjuic Bed & Breakfast and meals in some of the city’s restaurants, such as Cal Ros, Mimolet, Quimera, Bubbles Gastrobar, Vinil and Tapes 23.

In line with the strategy of the Patronat de Turisme for the promotion of the destination through social networks, the "Instagram your City" project is a new promotional channel in the form of an open photograph competition aimed at tourism towns in the Girona area that wish to showcase and publicise their attractions through the use of this application and make the most of the possibilities for boosting communities in social networks.
