APRIL 2019

San Sebastián was the setting for the “Coast to Coast” action on 20th March. This unique publicity event was launched by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board with the aim of positioning the Costa Brava as a gourmet food and wine tourism destination among travel agents, journalists and opinion leaders throughout Spain through a highly original, unique gourmet experience carried out by a group of chefs who notched up a total of eleven Michelin stars among them. In the course of the two exclusive sessions for forty guests of this gourmet experience event, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board presented the broad range of food and wine tourism options available in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees by means of a show cooking session recreating the fish auction at a Mediterranean fish market. Participants in the event were Catalan chefs Paco Pérez (from the restaurants Miramar**, in Llançà, Terra*, in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, and Enoteca**, in Barcelona), Mateu Casañas (from the restaurants Disfrutar**, in Barcelona, and Compartir, in Cadaqués) and Marc Gascons (from the restaurant Els Tinars*, in Llagostera) with Basque chefs represented by Paulo Airaudo (from the restaurant Amelia*, in San Sebastián), Álvaro Garrido (from the restaurant Mina*, in Bilbao) and Sergio Ortiz de Zarate (from the restaurant Zarate*, in Bilbao). Together they created a special menu composed of six courses alternating recipes and ingredients from the coasts of both Girona and the Basque Country, and incorporating food products with the Girona Excel.lent seal of quality and wines from the D.O. Empordà.
