Girona Bike World

More than 7,500 visitors to the new bike and cycle tourism trade fair in the province of Girona

Girona Bike World, which was held at Fira de Girona from 1 to 3 May, is set to become the benchmark for bicycle and cycling tourism trade fairs in Catalonia. The fair received 7,500 visitors from Girona, Barcelona and across Catalonia. The exhibition space included 72 exhibitors, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, the Consortium of Greenways in Girona and Dipsalut, who shared information and promoted active tourism, encouraging cycling as well as sports and health. The city also played host to the fifth International Bicycle Congress at the same time, an event jointly organised by the Girona Consortium of Greenways and the Autonomous Government of Catalonia and celebrated at Girona’s Palau de Congressos and Palau de Fires. The first edition of the Pirinexus 360 Challenge was also held; 62 athletes participated in this 347 km extreme endurance cycle race. Jordi Pereira from La Jonquera won the race with a time of 13 hours and 45 minutes. Girona Bike World was organised by Fira de Girona, the Girona City Council, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, the Girona Provincial Council and the Consortium of Greenways in Girona, and sponsored by CaixaBank and La Vanguardia.
