Food and wine promotion: 2017 Michelin Guide

The Costa Brava successfully hosts the 2017 Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal gala and announced the 14 Girona restaurants that picked up 18 Michelin stars.

The Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board marked the extraordinary 2017 Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal gala on 23 November in Girona, with a series of complementary events to communicate, disseminate and promote the region’s cuisine. The festivities kicked off in Madrid on 10 November with a meeting that brought together Joan Roca with eight Spanish food journalists; the Michelin-starred chef also participated in three talk radio programmes and an interview on TVE’s Aquí la Tierra show. Two Girona Food & Wine Tour events in Girona followed on 19 and 26 November. Celebrated in collaboration with Girona Food Tours, these instagrammer events brought together over 50 content creators who posted on Instagram using the hashtags #instaenogastronomia, #empordawine, #somgastronomia and #inCostaBrava. Girona also hosted the Tourist Board’s “The power of food and wine in tourism” on 21 November, two days before the event; this professional training conference was designed for sixty industry professionals. A food and wine and Michelin-star press trip was also celebrated on the 21st for four Catalan and Spanish food journalists in Girona, coinciding with the opening of the exhibition commemorating El Celler de Can Roca’s 30th anniversary, “El Celler de Can Roca, from the Earth to the Moon”. The exhibition, sponsored by the Girona Provincial Council and the Tourist Board, can be visited at the Palau Robert from 22 November to 23 April 2017. The publication of the new Michelin Red Guide as well as the 22 new chefs and restaurants awarded a coveted new Michelin star were announced the evening before the 2017 Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal gala, which was celebrated at Mas Marroch in Vilablareix and attended by 450 four hundred elite guests, from Catalan authorities to chefs, restaurant and tourism professionals and journalists. The event concluded with a meal prepared by eight Michelin-starred Girona chefs. The Michelin-starred restaurants in Girona for 2017 are: El Celler de Can Roca, with three stars; Les Cols i Miramar, with two stars; and Els Brancs, Les Magnòlies, Bo.TiC, Ca l’Enric, Casamar, Els Tinars, La Cuina de Can Simon, Fonda Xesc, Massana, Emporium and Ca l’Arpa with one. The event programme was capped off on 24 November with the launch of the Girona School of Hospitality and Tourism’s book, Cuina de relacions (Culinary relationships).
