MARCH 2014

On 31st October, the Patronat de Turisme presented the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destination to 150 people in Moscow, coinciding with the Salvador Dalí exhibition being held at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts until 13th November. The Patronat de Turisme organised this event with the goal of showcasing the tourism offer of the Costa Brava and the Pirineu de Girona to Russian authorities, airlines, leading tour operators, travel influencers and media outlets, on the basis of two key aspects: Catalan culture (in this case Salvador Dalí) and gastronomy.

The Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, with the collaboration of the Catalan Tourism Agency and the Gala - Salvador Dalí Foundation, has carried out in Moscow the first of several promotional, commercial and communication initiatives planned for emerging markets during the final quarter of 2011 and especially from 2012.

The event, almost five hours long, began with a music recital in which several pieces by the Catalan composer Manuel Albéniz were performed. This was followed by the presentation of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destination, made by Jaume Torramadé, President of Girona Provincial Council and of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Ramon Ramos, Director of the Patronat, Xavier Espasa, Director of the Catalan Tourism Agency, and Joan Manuel Sevillano, Manager of the Gala – Salvador Dalí Foundation. Other dignitaries were also present, such as Joan Giraut, Vice President of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, the Spanish ambassador, Luis Felipe Fernández de la Peña, and several Russian representatives of the Federal Tourism Agency, the Russian Tourism Industry Union and the Chamber of Commerce of the Russian Federation, among others. The promotional event was also attended by managers of the country's leading tour operators (Natalie Tours, Pegas Touristik, Russian Express, Neva Travel, Rusiber and Tui, etc.), along with around forty Russian journalists. Once the presentation ended, the guests were taken on a tour of the Salvador Dalí Retrospective exhibition. The event concluded with a cocktail party for all the guests organised by the Patronat de Turisme.

The Patronat de Turisme has seen clear evidence of Russian interest in the counties of Girona: over the course of 2011, Catalonia has welcomed between 640,000 and 650,000 tourists from the Russian Federation and neighbouring countries.

To capture the interest of the guests who attended this promotional event, the cultural wealth, climate, scenic variety and prestigious cuisine of the Costa Brava and the Pirineu de Girona were all showcased, along with the quality of the tourism offer and services.
