CBXR Athletics Race 2011

The third Costa Brava Xtrem Running athletics race lengthens the stretches along coastal footpaths.

MARCH 2014

From 13th to 15th May, the Costa Brava will host the third Costa Brava Xtrem Running (CBXR) athletics race from Blanes to Portbou. This year, the CBXR will have just two formats: Xtrem (135 km in three days) and Selva Marítima (25 km in one day). Other new features will be the longer stretches along coastal footpaths and the ascending gradient, along with fewer stretches on asphalt roads.

The main race will be composed of three stages, one per day. The first, from Blanes to Tossa de Mar, will be approximately 25 km long, with an accumulated ascent of 1,500 metres. The second stage will be 55 km long, from Sant Feliu de Guíxols to Torroella de Montgrí, with an accumulated ascent of 2,000 m. Finally, the third stage, from Roses to Portbou, will be 55 km long, with an accumulated ascent of 1,800 metres. Despite the tough nature of this exceptional adventure, the event organisers have worked very hard on its design and logistics to ensure that runners are well looked after at all times.

The Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, together with Girona's 22 coastal towns and other organisations and private companies, is supporting the Costa Brava Xtrem Running athletics race with the aim of raising the external profile of the destination's natural and cultural attractions through sport and tourism. The runners and supporters will enjoy a unique and intense experience through which they will discover the wealth of scenic, historical and tourism resources boasted by the Costa Brava.
