The Costa Brava’s campsites are recognised for their quality by Dutch and German automobile associations ANWB and ADAC.
During the Vakantiebeurs Utrecht fair in The Netherlands, eight campsites in Girona (Càmping Cypsela Resort, in Pals; campsites Aquarius, L’Àmfora, Las Dunas and La Ballena Alegre, in Sant Pere Pescador; Càmping Laguna, in Empuriabrava; Càmping Les Medes, in L’Estartit, and Eurocàmping, in Sant Antoni de Calonge) were named among the Top Campsites of 2023 by the prestigious Dutch automobile association ANWB for the quality of their facilities and services. In addition, Càmping La Ballena Alegre was also nominated in the ‘Most pleasant family campsite by the sea’ category, while Càmping Yelloh! Village Sant Pol was nominated in the ‘Most unique accommodation’ category.
Later, at the CMT Stuttgart fair in Germany, six of Girona’s campsites were also awarded the Superplätze 2023, presented by Germany’s Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club (ADAC), Europe’s largest automobile association. The winning establishments in the ADAC awards are: Les Medes in L’Estartit; El Delfin Verde Costa Brava Resort in Torroella de Montgrí; and L’Àmfora, La Ballena Alegre, Las Dunas and Aquarius in Sant Pere Pescador. ADAC is the association with the most members in Germany, with more than 20 million associated families.
Dutch tourism, top international market for campsites
According to data from the Eurecat Foundation (TDS), in 2022, Girona’s campsites welcomed 3.1 million tourists (9.22% more than in 2019) who generated 11.3 million overnight stays (7.3% more than in 2019). It should be mentioned that the province of Girona’s campsites, which offer more than 135,000 places, received the greatest number of overnight stays of all the regulated types of tourist accommodation in the destination.
In 2022, the province of Girona welcomed 349,000 Dutch visitors, practically the same number as in 2019, who generated 2.1 million overnight stays, 20.11% more than in 2019, making these tourists the first international market for campsites in the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees, followed by French tourists, with 1.4 million overnight stays, and German tourists, with 810,000.
