Blue Flag Beaches

26 beaches and 9 ports and marinas on the Costa Brava receive the Blue Flag awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education.

The beaches holding Blue Flag status this year are those at Grifeu and the Port de Llançà, El Port de la Selva, Cala Montgó (L’Escala), Tamariu, Llafranc and Canadell (Palafrugell), La Fosca (Palamós), Sant Antoni, Es Monestri, Cala Cristus-Ses Torretes and Torre Valentina (Sant Antoni de Calonge), Cala Rovira, Platja Gran and Sa Conca (Castell-Platja d’Aro), Sant Pol and Sant Feliu (Sant Feliu de Guíxols), Mar Menuda and Platja Gran (Tossa de Mar), Platja Gran, Sa Boadella and Santa Cristina (Lloret de Mar) and Sant Francesc, Blanes and S’Abanell (Blanes). The ports and marinas with Blue Flags are Club de Vela Blanes, Club Nàutic Aiguablava (Begur), Club Nàutic Costa Brava (Palamós), Club Nàutic Estartit, Club Nàutic L’Escala, Club Nàutic Llançà, Club Nàutic Port de la Selva, Port Esportiu de Roses and Club Nàutic del Port d’Aro in Platja d’Aro (which obtained its Blue Flag this year).

This recognition is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education’s (FEE) Blue Flag International Jury in collaboration with the Environmental and Consumer Education Association (ADEAC), which manages the campaign in Spain. The award also involves the collaboration of the public administrations that manage the bathing areas and microbiological quality of the water. 

This internationally recognised award, present in 47 countries, evaluates and rewards good environmental management, safety in swimming areas and their facilities, the optimum provision of services and information, and environmental education. In the case of beaches, these are required to have excellent water quality, while ports must demonstrate outstanding environmental management.
