Transpyr® Adventure 2011

The Transpyr ® Adventure 2011 raises the international profile of the destination and is firmly establishing itself with the support of the Patronat de Turisme.

MARCH 2014

Already in its second year, the first extreme mountain bike staged route linking the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean along the southern slopes of the Pyrenees, inspired by the popular bicycle touring route known as the trans-Pyrenean or two seas route, crossing and linking Catalonia, Aragon, Navarre and the Basque Country, took place from 2nd to 9th July.

For the second year running, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona is sponsoring the staged mountain bike route that links the Mediterranean to the Atlantic Ocean in just eight days. With the goal of raising the profile of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona brands, the Patronat de Turisme is committed to promoting a sports event that is proving increasingly popular with participants and visitors alike. The Transpyr® 2011 got under way on 2nd July at Roses beach on the Costa Brava. This year, 200 cyclists are taking part, compared with 80 cyclists in 2010, the event's début year.

For all the sportspeople taking part, the Transpyr® represents a great personal challenge and a sensational journey of perseverance and immersion in the valleys, villages and cultures of the Pyrenees. The event route covers almost 800 km and more than 20,000 metres of altitude gain and loss in 8 days of pedalling. The event is being sponsored for the second time by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, with the collaboration of the Pyrenees brand. The route passes through Roses, Camprodon, la Seu d'Urgell, el Pont de Suert, Aínsa, Jaca, Isaba and Elizondo before reaching the long-awaited finishing line in San Sebastian.

The TRANSPYR®, an initiative by individuals and organisations associated with the Pyrenees who are cycling and outdoor sports enthusiasts, has the potential to become a leading international mountain bike stage event.
