Tourism figures 2013

15.6 million foreign tourists came to Catalonia in 2013 and over 4.5 million tourists visited the Girona area.

According to figures from the Government of Catalonia's Enterprise and Labour Observatory, 15.6 million foreign tourists visited Catalonia in 2013, up 8% on the previous year. These tourists spent over 14,000 million euros in the region (an increase of 14.2%).

Catalonia is now established as the top tourist destination in Spain, in terms of the number of foreign visitors, and is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe and the world. 2013 saw records broken both for tourist spending and the number of foreign tourists visiting Catalonia, beating the previous records set in 2007.

4.5 million foreign tourists visited Girona and the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona tourist regions, with over 18 million overnight stays, excluding holiday apartments.France continued to be the biggest source market, followed by the UK (whose numbers are continuing to recover), Germany and Russia.
