The first tourism guide to the Costa Brava in Braille

The Patronat de Turisme and ONCE publish the first guide with the accessible tourism offer of the Costa Brava.

MARCH 2014

As part of the commemoration of the Centenary of the Costa Brava, and within the framework of a collaboration agreement, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava and the Catalan branch of the ONCE (Spanish Organisation for the Blind) have published the first tourism guide to the destination in Braille, featuring its accessible tourism offer. The guide contains general information on the natural, heritage and tourism resources of the area, along with information on accommodation, museums and accessible activities for visitors.

This guide shows the sensitivity and determination of organisations and of the sector to adapt the tourism offer to individuals with movement difficulties and to those with sensory and/or cognitive disabilities The Braille guide enables the general public and the visually impaired community to become familiar with the attractions and values that make the Costa Brava a unique tourist destination.

However, the guide is much more than this since it provides detailed information on the offer that enables those affected by disabilities to enjoy a wide range of tourism activities such as adapted sailing, diving using an amphibian chair, cycle touring with an adapted bicycle, cultural visits to museums or accessible nature trails.

Furthermore, the Braille guide includes specific information on the following accessible tourism facilities: 233 accommodation options, 19 museums, 11 active tourism companies, 40 beaches and 50 tourism offices. Information is also provided on mobility.
