On 20th December, Lloret de Mar's Teatre Municipal hosted the seventh G! Tourism Awards of the Counties of Girona, organised by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona. This event is conceived as a celebration of the local tourism sector and on this occasion brought together 300 people including dignitaries, representatives of the tourism sector and media professionals.

The event was hosted by the journalist Xavier Grasset and featured a performance by the Lloret de Mar singer Nina. The running theme of this year's event were the DO Empordà wine cellars, highlighting the work that they are doing to develop and boost wine tourism in the Girona area as a tourism product.

Speakers at the event included Joan Giraut, member of Girona Provincial Council and Vice-President of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, Marian Muro, Head of the Directorate General for Tourism of the Government of Catalonia, and Romà Codina, Mayor of Lloret de Mar, along with the winners of the various award categories.

The seventh tourism awards organised by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, with the support of Lloret de Mar City Council and La Caixa, paid tribute to Jaume Genover and Jordi Comas, who passed away this year. These two businessmen were pioneers and key figures in the tourism sector of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona from the start of the development of the local tourism industry right up to the present day.

Winners of the G!12 Tourism Awards of the Counties of Girona

The 7th Josep Pujol i Aulí Professional Contribution Award went to the brothers Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca i Fontané, of the El Celler de Can Roca restaurant.

The 7th Xiquet Sabater Business Project Award went to the Gala - Salvador Dalí Foundation.

The 1st Jordi Comas i Matamala Special Award went to Josep Maria Perramon i Martínez, Delegate of the Catalan Tourism Agency in Eastern Europe and Director of the Moscow, Kiev and Riga offices.

The 7th Tourism Communication Award in the written media category went to the Czech journalist Miluse Válková, for the features published in various media outlets of the Czech Republic:  Cestopisy, Travel Digest and Psí kusy.

The runner-up award in the same category went to Lluís Tolosa for his Empordà Wine Tourism Guide. 180 places to enjoy wine tourism and more than 200 recommended wines, published by LTA Ediciones.

The 1st Tourism Communication Award in the digital media category went to Keith Jenkins for his blog Velvet Escape.

The 7th Tourism Communication Award in the audiovisual media category was declared null and void.

The 3rd Yvette Barbaza Award for Tourism Research went to the study "Tourism image of the counties of Girona on the basis of online text mining", by Ariadna Gassiot and Lluís Coromines.
