MARCH 2014

From 14th to 22nd January, the FIS World Snowboard Championship was held at the La Molina ski resort, bringing together the world's top snowboarders and a large number of snowboard fans.

The five championship trials were held in La Molina, involving 400 sportspeople from 43 different countries. In order of schedule, the trials were: snowboardcross (SBX), parallel giant slalom (PGS), halfpipe (HP), parallel slalom (PSL) and slopestyle (SBS), in both the men's and ladies' categories. The winners of each category of the 9th World Snowboard Championship are published on the official website of the FIS (International Ski Federation) www.fis-ski.com.

According to the information provided by the Association of Hotels and Campsites of La Cerdanya, the hotels in the towns of La Molina, Alp and Prats, the closest to the ski resort of La Molina, were fully booked. The city of Puigcerdà enjoyed a hotel occupancy rate of between 50% and 60% on average. The Vice-President of the Association, Núria Vidal, viewed the holding of this Championship very positively in terms of raising the international profile of the destination. Vidal added that, "placing La Molina on the world stage means being placed on the map, which is why hoteliers have been so supportive."

The Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona took part in this top-class sports event with a promotion and information space in the village zone on the last four days of the competition. Here, the Patronat de Turisme provided visitors with information on the general offer of tourism products and services in Girona's five ski resorts through the Neu Mediterrània (Mediterranean Snow) leaflet, as well as on natural areas of interest, cultural routes, greenways, hiking routes, cycle touring, mountain biking and the gastronomy of inland areas.
