Promotional actions in the media

Sports events such as the Catalonia-Costa Brava Grand Prix of the World Windsurfing Championship, the MIMA and the promotion of new tourism products draw the attention of the Spanish and international press to the destination.

MARCH 2014

In June the Patronat de Turisme, the Catalan Tourism Agency and Turespaña, with support of several tourism organisations and companies from the Girona area, scheduled seventeen press trips with different themes for journalists from France, the Benelux countries, Scandinavian countries, Eastern European countries and Spain.

Sports events, such as the Catalonia-Costa Brava Grand Prix of the World Windsurfing Championship and the MIMA underwater photography event; specific promotional actions, such as the Cuisine and Golf Tournament; and new tourism products, including the Way of Saint James in Catalonia and the Pyrenean counties route, draw the attention of the Spanish and international press to the destination. Furthermore, the Nautical, Golf, and Health and Beauty product marketing associations of the Patronat de Turisme have scheduled specialised press trips for media outlets including Evasion, Plongeur.com, Dive Magazine, Unterwasser, Golf World and Eurosport.

A highlight of this month was the number of television productions filmed in tourist sites and towns in the Girona area by national and international television stations. The British station ITV filmed in the town of Platja d’Aro for the production of a report to be broadcast in the holiday slot of its daytime programme “This Morning”. The Belgian station VTM filmed in various camping and caravan sites in Roses Bay for its “Camping Club” programme. Moreover, filming was also carried out at historical sites in the inland counties of Girona for the production of cultural programmes for the NTV station in Russia and the ICTV station in Ukraine.
