Promotion of Jewish heritage

US Jewish communities will collaborate in projects for the recovery of the Jewish legacy in the Girona area.

MARCH 2014

Coinciding with the Seatrade Cruise Shipping convention in Miami, a delegation of representatives of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board of Girona Provincial Council, the Girona Chamber of Commerce and the Call de Girona Municipal Board met with three US Jewish communities to present the Jewish legacy of the Girona area (mainly the city of Girona and the towns of Besalú and Castelló d’Empúries) and to encourage them to participate in the Jewish heritage recovery projects and programmes that are under way in the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destination.

The three US Jewish communities (the Sephardic Congregation of Florida, the AJC’s Latino and Latin American Institute and The Shul) expressed an interest in discovering Girona's Jewish heritage and will consider collaborating in Jewish legacy recovery and promotion projects in the Girona area.

As a result of the meetings, The Shul expressed an interest in collaborating in some of the cooperation projects that were presented. It also announced that it would schedule several visits by its members to the Girona area.
