In 2014 business tourism has had an economic impact of 87.6 million euros in Girona, according to a study by Insetur commissioned by the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau, which includes the Girona Provincial Council’s Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board and Girona’s three chambers of commerce. A total of 560 professional events were held in Girona in 2014, which attracted 68,135 participants. Of the 87,649,713.80 euros spent, 60,867,856.83 euros came from direct activity and the remaining 26,781,857 euros indirectly. The study, which analysed and diagnosed tourism’s current situation in the province of Girona, was commissioned in order to plan promotional and marketing strategies that will drive and position the different sub-segments of the tourism business –conferences, conventions, meeting and events– for markets in the coming years.

According to the study, the tourism businesses’ potential for growth in the province is “very high”, underscoring the region’s positive factors like environment and price.
