Girona Convention Bureau

173 interviews with specialised travel agencies at the MICE Place Méditerranée meeting point in Marseilles.

MARCH 2014

On 14th and 15th February, the Girona Convention Bureau, part of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, participated in the MICE Place Méditerranée meeting point in Marseilles, organised by the French company Meet and Com, which specialises in the business tourism segment in France, with the aim of presenting and marketing the offering of business, conference and convention products and services of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destination.

MICE Place is a programme of professional meeting points held in cities across France (Marseilles, Lyon, Bordeaux and Paris) with the goal of encouraging the organisation of meetings, conferences and incentive trips, mainly in France. The Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona was the only destination from outside France to be promoted.

Seven member companies of the Girona Convention Bureau (Girona Conference Centre, Hotel Meliá Golf Vichy Catalán, Sallés Hotels, Lloret Convention Bureau, Evenia Hotels, Hotel Santa Marta, and the Casino and Costa Brava Conference Centre in Lloret of Mar) also took part in this event for professionals, holding 150 interviews in which they promoted facilities, products and services aimed specifically at business tourism.

Over the two days of the event, the Girona Convention Bureau held 23 interviews with managers of French events agencies, with secretaries to the CEOs of large companies, with offices in Paris and the south of France, and all with decision-making powers over choosing destinations for organising conferences, meetings and incentive trips. As a result of the Girona Convention Bureau's activity at the meeting point, the Greenfee’z Travel & Events agency has requested information for the organisation of a golf incentive trip.

In its interviews, the Girona Convention Bureau emphasised the accessibility of the destination thanks to the TGV rail link (operated by SNCF) connecting Girona to Figueres-Vilafant and Paris, as well as to cities in the south of France (Perpignan, Narbonne, Montpelier and Avignon). The wide range of incentive activities available in the area, along with its first-rate gastronomy, natural landscape and culture were the attractions most highly valued by the agencies.

In March, representatives of the Girona Convention Bureau will travel to Madrid for a series of personalised marketing visits arranged with intermediaries. Furthermore, during the MITT tourism fair in Moscow, meetings will be held with two specialised Russian agencies.
