MARCH 2014

On 16th December the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona held the fifth G! Tourism Awards of the counties of Girona. More than two hundred people gathered at La Sitja Civic and Cultural Centre in Fornells de la Selva, including dignitaries, representatives of the tourism sector and professionals from the general media and from specialised tourism and gastronomy media outlets.

The G! Tourism Awards of the counties of Girona were created by the Patronat as a way of recognising and rewarding the career and good business management of Girona's tourism professionals while raising the external profile of the tourism attractions and resources of the Costa Brava and the Pirineu de Girona.

The annual G! Awards are divided into three categories, one of which is honorary (the Josep Pujol i Aulí Professional Contribution Award and the Xiquet Sabater Business Project Award), while the tourism communication awards (in the written media category and the audiovisual media category) and the Yvette Barbaza Award for Research have a monetary value.

Musical interludes were provided by the Vox group during the G! Awards ceremony, which was followed by an olive oil-themed tasting for attendees.

The G! Awards, held by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, were supported by Caixa Girona and Fornells de la Selva Town Council.

In the audiovisual media category, the award went to Deutsche Welle TV, in recognition of its programme Euromaxx Reiselust, dedicated to the county of La Garrotxa, which contributed to promoting the tourism attractions and values of Girona's inland counties.

For the 5th Tourism Communication Awards of the Counties of Girona, 40 pieces of work were submitted from eleven different countries (Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, the UK, Austria, Belgium, the Ukraine, China and Australia), including articles from the written press, online articles and television productions.

Winner of the G!10 Yvette Barbaza Award for Research

The first Yvette Barbaza Award for Tourism Research went to a project dedicated to coastal tourism patterns in the context of an economic crisis, presented by Marc Grijalvo and focusing specifically on the tourist town of Roses.

This research project aims to shed light on the most significant changes in tourism consumption patterns, focusing on coastal tourism in particular.
