First hotel bookings engine in the portal

The tourism portal of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona has incorporated an online hotel bookings engine for the destinations that includes more than 400 establishments from the Girona area.

The tourism portal of the Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona has incorporated an online hotel bookings engine for the destinations. It initially includes 413 establishments from the Girona area, providing the local hotel sector with an additional channel for marketing its tourism products and services www.costabrava.org    www.pirineugirona.org.

This bookings engine will be provided by Booking.com, a leading European company in online hotel bookings per room and night. The Patronat de Turisme has incorporated this service with two goals in mind: to offer visitors to the destinations a bookings service that facilitates and improves the features of the portal, and to provide hotel owners with a new tool for marketing and distributing their products and services.

The Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona tourism portal received more than 1,220,000 visits in 2009, 8.35% up on the previous year. This data reveals the growing functionality of the portal and the adaptation of the website to new holiday booking trends in the market.

The Costa Brava and Pirineu de Girona destinations stand out among competing destinations by incorporating this tool and making it available to end customers and the tourism sector. The Patronat de Turisme estimates that a business volume of 1.1 million euros could be generated for the hotel sector through the operation of this bookings engine. In the medium term the Patronat de Turisme will also incorporate a bookings tool for tourist apartments and activities within the portal, thus broadening its services targeted at individual tourists and eventually enabling the full range of tourism products and services to be marketed through the portal.
