EIBTM 2013

Event organisers show a growing interest in the destination

MARCH 2014

Spanish and international event organisers tend to look for destinations that offer delegates unique venues and a range of complementary activities, whether related to sports or to food and wine (such as visits to wineries or cookery courses), outside the metropolitan area of Barcelona. At the EIBTM (European Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition), which brought together 15,000 professionals from all over the world in Barcelona from 19th to 21st November, the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau held meetings with 60 companies (four times the number held the previous year) that were in search of new locations and incentive programmes that combine meetings with sports and food and wine activities.

In parallel to this fair for the MICE sector, specific promotional and marketing events took place, such as the Dolce Vita workshop, in which the Costa Brava Girona Convention Bureau participated actively as part of its strategy to place its business tourism products in the Russian market. Meanwhile, 24 MICE travel agents from various parts of the world visited the Costa Brava on two familiarisation trips in order to explore conference venues and accommodation options, along with incentive activities in towns of the Girona area such as Lloret de Mar, Girona, Castell-Platja d’Aro and Peralada.
