Costa Brava International Comic Prize

The Costa Brava International Comic Prize at Expocómic 2013 in Madrid

MARCH 2014

The Costa Brava International Comic Prize was endorsed in a presentation in Madrid by the authors and illustrators of the Tirso Cons comic, Kenny Ruiz and Iñaki Miranda, together with the Spanish Association of Friends of the Comic (AEAC), organiser of the International Comic Exhibition in Madrid - Expocómic 2013, who consider that the prize will help boost the sector and foster the emergence of new talent.

In addition to the creators of the comic, the presentation was attended by the Mayor of Torroella de Montgrí - L’Estartit, the Director of Publications of Panini España and the Director of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, who took the opportunity to promote the Comic Festival of Torroella de Montgrí, to announce the terms and conditions of the Costa Brava International Comic Prize (worth 20,000 euros, the most generous in Spain) and to foster the international prestige of the Costa Brava brand by associating the tourist destination with a cultural and artistic discipline that has enthusiasts all over the world.

During the presentation of the programme of the International Comic Exhibition in Madrid - Expocómic 2013 and of the Costa Brava International Comic Prize, which took place the day before the start of the fair, held from 12th to 15th December at the Glass Pavilion of Casa de Campo exhibition centre in Madrid, the AEAC announced that the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board (the tourism promotion body of Girona Provincial Council) and Torroella de Montgrí Town Council were the recipients of the Madroño 2013 award for their work as promoters of the comic prize (together with Panini España) and for being the institutions that have worked hardest to promote the comic sector over the course of the year.

The presentation took place at the Milk Studio in Madrid and ended with a special meal prepared by the Espai del Peix gastronomic facility of Palamós.
