Awards for the Costa Brava golf sector

The British magazine Today’s Golfer and the TOP100 Golf Courses of the World website acknowledge the quality of the Costa Brava's golf courses.

MARCH 2014

The prestigious magazine Today’s Golfer, one of the best-selling golf magazines in the UK and Ireland, held the first TG Travel Awards –golf travel awards– on 3rd January, with the support of the main golf tour operators. The aim of these awards is to recognise the best destinations, courses and hotels/resorts in Europe. They are voted on by golfers and professionals from the sector.

The website of Today’s Golfer published the list of award winners, where the Costa Brava appears as the third best European golf destination –Best Value Destination (Continental Europe)– behind Turkey and Portugal’s Algarve area. The Costa del Sol was voted the fourth best European golf destination.

In the category of Best golf course in Spain –Spain. Best Course–, the PGA Golf Catalunya course in Caldes de Malavella came second, behind the Valderrama course and ahead of the San Roque course, both in Andalusia.

In the category of Best hotel/resort in Spain –Spain. Best Hotel/Resort–, the Hotel Melià Golf Vichy Catalán in Caldes de Malavella, part of the PGA Catalunya Resort, was also ranked second, ahead of La Quinta and behind La Manga.

Furthermore, the Costa Brava courses have come high up in the prestigious ranking published annually by TOP 100 Golf Courses of the World, an official independent website devoted to the world's top golf courses. In the category of Continental European top 100 courses, the PGA Golf Catalunya Stadium is ranked third and the Empordà Golf Links course is also featured. In the category of Spain’s top 100 courses, the PGA Golf Catalunya Stadium comes top, while Empordà Golf Links, Empordà Golf Forest, PGA Golf Catalunya Tour and Golf Platja de Pals are also ranked, as is Club Golf D’Aro – Mas Nou, in the "Gem" category.

These awards come on top of those awarded by the magazine National Geographic Traveler, which ranked the Costa Brava as one of the world's top twenty tourist destinations for 2012, and by the American travel guide Frommer’s, which placed Girona in its list of the Top 10 tourist destinations for 2012.
