Alimara prize

The first tourism guide to the Costa Brava in Braille receives an Alimara prize.

MARCH 2014

On 7th April, the CETT Group of Barcelona, an international centre for training and knowledge transfer in hotel management and tourism, attached to the University of Barcelona, awarded an Alimara Prize for tourism promotional material to the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona for its publication of a tourism guide to the Costa Brava in Braille.

The Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava and the Catalan branch of the ONCE (Spanish Organisation for the Blind) published the first tourism guide in Braille on the accessible tourism offer of the destination. The guide contains general information on the natural, heritage and tourism resources of the area, along with information on accommodation, museums and accessible activities for visitors. It also provides detailed information on the general offer that enables those affected by disabilities to enjoy a wide range of tourism activities such as adapted sailing, diving using an amphibian chair, cycle touring with an adapted bicycle, cultural visits to museums or accessible nature trails. The following elements are listed with specific information on accessible tourism: 233 accommodation establishments, 19 museums, 11 active tourism companies, 40 beaches and 50 tourism offices. Information is also provided on mobility in the area.

The prize, in the category of state, autonomous and regional tourism institutions, was handed to Enric Vilert, President of the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, by Marian Muro, Director General for Tourism of the Catalan Government.
