Tourist occupancy data

The tourist sector in Girona province records similar occupancy figures for July and August as last year.

The Girona hotels on the coast met the July provisions, with almost 80% occupancy. In the Alt Empordà region, occupancy was 70% in July, while in the Costa Brava Centre and the Costa Brava South, the average was above 80%. It is calculated that hotel occupancy for August on the Girona coast ranged between 90% and 92%. The campsites, in a sector with 135,000 places in the province, registered between 65% and 70% occupancy in July. In August, there was an average occupancy of 85% (with the first fortnight of August at almost 100%) and it is envisaged that this season will close with similar figures to 2016. As far as rural establishments in Girona are concerned, the slight drop in bookings for July was compensated by the increase in August. In addition to recovering the domestic market, bookings from France, Holland and Belgium continue to be significant. With respect to tourist apartments, the average occupancy in July was 75% and during the first fortnight of August, figures reached 94%. The Tourist Apartments Association envisages closing the season with a 2% increase on 2016. Envisaged occupancy for September is uncertain because of the Barcelona attacks on 17 August. The weather during the first fortnight of the month can also influence bookings at the last minute.
