2nd Costa Brava International Comic Prize

Three comic illustrators endorse the prize

MARCH 2014

The comic illustrators Cels Piñol (author of Fanhunter), Xavier Carrasco (contributor to the satirical magazine El Jueves with the strips Autopsia urbana, Solo Suso and Klaus & Bruno Cía.) and Nacho Fernández (author of Dragon Fall, Templarios and Dark Breed), endorsed the Costa Brava International Comic Prize in a special presentation event held in Barcelona.

The prize, newly created as part of the Torroella de Montgrí Comic Festival, is being awarded for the second time. Worth 20,000 euros, it is considered the most generous of its kind in Spain (terms and conditions).

The recipient of the inaugural Costa Brava International Comic Prize was Ocupante, by the writer Andreu Martín, the illustrator Jorge Jacobo Navarro and the colour artist Carlos Ruano.

In addition to the three authors Cels Piñol, Xavier Carrasco and Nacho Fernández, each of whom drew a cartoon depicting scenes related to tourism on the Costa Brava, the event was attended by the Mayor of Torroella de Montgrí-L’Estartit, Jordi Cordón, the Managing Director of Panini, Lluís Torrent, and the Director of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, Ramon Ramos.

The Costa Brava International Comic Prize, presented to media outlets specialised in culture and tourism, is promoted by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board and Torroella-L’Estartit Town Council, and organised by Panini España. The prize is aimed at raising the profile and encouraging the participation of comic authors and illustrators, publicising the Torroella de Montgrí Comic Festival and, finally, fostering the international prestige of the Costa Brava brand by associating the tourist destination with a cultural and artistic discipline that has enthusiasts all over the world.
