The Costa Brava, framed by the Centenary

With the collaboration of coastal towns, twenty-four well-known beauty spots on the Costa Brava are framed to highlight the qualities that make the Girona coastline unique.

MARCH 2014

On the occasion of the Centenary of the Costa Brava, work began in July to erect frames in twenty-four well-known beauty spots of the Costa Brava. A series of crafted Corten steel picture frames are being installed in spots chosen by the twenty-two coastal towns who have agreed to take part in this promotional action.

Through these frames, which are being left as a legacy of the commemoration of one hundred years of the Costa Brava name, the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona aims to promote the distinguishing qualities of the Girona coastline: the sea, the mountains, the architecture and the landscape. To achieve this goal the Patronat has sought the collaboration of coastal towns in the form of an inscription that evokes the spot in which the frame is placed.

The inscription texts, which explain the location and its meaning, have been chosen from the works of writers and columnists etc. or have been written especially for this initiative. The inscriptions invite visitors to discover the special features of the places through the frames and praise their scenic or architectural qualities: the sea, walled enclosures, historical centres, etc.

All the coastal towns of the Costa Brava, from Portbou to Blanes, have participated in the initiative. Indeed, it is the towns, as the best judges of their respective local areas and their scenic attractions, which have chosen the location of the frames and the inscription that introduces visitors to the framed image.
