Seatrade Med

The Patronat de Turisme takes part in the most important international cruise ship tourism fair, Seatrade Med, presenting the Costa Brava as a Mediterranean cruise ship tourism destination.

MARCH 2014

By virtue of the agreements signed between the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, the Port Authority of the Catalan Government, the Girona Chamber of Commerce, the Palamós Chamber of Commerce, and the town councils of Palamós and Roses to promote cruise ship activity in the ports of Palamós and Roses, representing the Costa Brava in the international cruise ship market, from 30th November to 2nd December the Patronat de Turisme took part in the most important international fair of the cruise ship industry, held this year at the Cannes Festival and Conference Centre in France.

No other event in the cruise ship industry calendar brings together professionals of such a high calibre under the same roof for two days, offering specific business opportunities. At Seatrade Med, products, destinations and new features are presented. An extensive schedule of talks, an intensive course for travel agents and important social events also take place.

The Patronat de Turisme attended the fair to present the Costa Brava as a cruise ship tourism destination to cruise ship companies that operate Mediterranean routes and to specialised tour operators interested in scheduling cruise calls in Girona ports.

It is worth highlighting that Palamós Port has ended the 2010 season with good results: 31 cruise calls and 27,500 passengers. The annual figures show that the port has achieved its second best season ever in terms of the cruise ship sector. The boost received by cruise ship activity following the collaboration agreement signed between the public authorities and various organisations to promote cruise ship activity in Palamós has enabled the strengthening of the sector, with visits from American cruise ship companies and agents offering specialised services, and the arrival of cruise ship passenger number 100,000. In this context, for the 2011 season the port forecasts visits from large groups of the sector, including MSC, Iberocruceros and Azamara Club Cruises, and aims to strengthen the loyalty of companies such as Thomson Cruises, Louis Cruise Lines, Seabourn Cruise Line, Wind Star Cruises, Compagnie Illes du Ponant and Sea Cloud Cruises.

Furthermore, at Seatrade Med Palamós presented a new product for cruise ship visitors: the Truman Capote tourism trail, a fun experience that shows how this remarkable person spent his time in Palamós during the period in which he wrote his famous novel In Cold Blood.
