Promotional actions in the media

The new Qatar Airways Doha – Barcelona flight and the promotion of culture-related tourism products capture the interest of the international press in the destination.

In October the Patronat de Turisme, the Catalan Tourism Agency and Turespaña, with the support of several tourism organisations and companies from the Girona area, scheduled three press trips with different themes for journalists from Russia, the Benelux countries, Italy, France and the Middle East.

Qatar Airways’ new daily flight from Doha to Barcelona, which has been operating since June, led to the organisation of a press trip to Catalonia for a group of six journalists from Qatar. The destination was presented through an extensive programme of cultural visits, including one to the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres.

Two press trips showcasing Catalonia’s cultural offer also took place. The Russian television channel Rossiya2 filmed towns and cities such as Besalú and Girona for the production of a cultural programme on the destination. In mid-October a group of ten journalists from Central Europe specialised in travel and culture visited the Citadel of Roses and the Archaeological Site of Empúries, two key stops along the “Roman Catalonia” trail that they were following.

This month several articles have been published and a television report has been produced following a press trip aimed at the Italian market, organised in conjunction with the Spanish Tourism Office in Milan. This trip took place in July on the occasion of the Salvador Dalí exhibition held at Milan’s Palazzo Reale.
