Costa Brava Cruise Ports

The ports of Palamós and Roses consolidate the Costa Brava’s cruise ship market, with 62 stopovers and 57,000 passengers in a record year.

FEBRUARY 2018

This year, the ports of Palamós and Roses anticipate achieving a historic record, with 62 stopovers and 57,000 passengers and, overall, a 26% increase in the number of passengers and 35% increase in stopovers. This is the first time that the threshold of 60 stopovers per year will be surpassed on the Costa Brava, and it is calculated that the activity will generate a direct economic impact on the area of €3.8 million. This figure has been taken from a study on the sector which calculates that the average amount spent by each passenger and crew member that disembarks is €62 and €23, respectively. These figures are further increased by each ship’s port service costs, which amount to €6 per passenger. During the 2018 season, the two Costa Brava ports will be visited by a total of 17 cruise liners, 55% of which will be luxury cruises. In terms of starting the season, Palamós will begin on Sunday 4th March, while Roses will do so on Sunday 6th May. By coincidence, both ports will kick off the season with the British company Saga Shipping. The role of promotion with the Costa Brava Cruise Ports brand is proving crucial in consolidating cruise ship activity.
