2nd Costa Brava International Comic Award

Publication of the terms and conditions of entry for the second Costa Brava International Comic Award

MARCH 2014

The involvement of the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board in the Torroella de Montgrí Comic Festival is linked to the creation of the Costa Brava International Comic Award, in collaboration with Torroella Town Council and Panini.

The festival, which is already a firm fixture in the cultural calendar, fulfils the requirements that the Tourist Board considers essential for promoting the Costa Brava brand and for showcasing the area’s strength in terms of culture and entertainment.

The Costa Brava International Comic Award offers 20,000 euros in prize money, making it the highest-paying award in Spain, only comparable with the prestigious National Comic Award of the Spanish Ministry of Culture. This award also surpasses the long-established FICOMIC: Main Prize of the Fair, awarded at the Barcelona Comic Fair and worth 10,000 euros.

This award has been established by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board and Torroella Town Council with the goal of promoting comics as a major art form and fostering the coming together of different cultures due to its international nature. It is also designed as a tool to raise the international profile of the Costa Brava. The award is biennial. This year the terms and conditions of entry are being presented for the second award, the recipient of which will be announced in the spring of 2014. The recipient of the inaugural award was Ocupante, by the authors Carlos Ruano, Jacobo Navarro and Andreu Martí. The runner-up was Lanterjack, by the German Martin Frei. In 2014 the competition promoters will publicly present the winners of the second award at the ExpoComic Fair in Madrid.
