Wine Tourism Activity Report

The economic impact of the wine tourism at the wineries along the DO Empordà Wine Route in 2024 is estimated at €4.1 million.  


According to the 2024 DO Empordà Wine Route Visitors report, produced by the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board, in the wineries associated with the DO Empordà Wine Route, a total of twenty-six wineries registered 94,886 wine tourists, this figure represents a 4.10 % increase with respect to the 2023 financial year. The report shows that wine tourists spend an average of €38.94. The economic impact of the wine tourism at the wineries along the DO Empordà Wine Route in 2024 is estimated at €4,136,011.

In terms of the evolution of visitor numbers at the wineries throughout the year, a flattening of the seasonality curve continues to be observed, resulting in a more stable flow of visitors between April and November.

Regarding the visitors’ origins, it was observed that in 2023, 63 % of visitors came from Catalonia, 28 % were international and 9 % came from the rest of Spain. It is clear that local visitors, especially residents, are the main customers of the wineries. Regarding international wine tourists, the French stand out as the most frequent visitors to the Empordà wineries, accounting for 25.1 %, followed by the Dutch at 18 %, and North Americans and Canadian at 11.1 %.
