Provisional review summer 2024

The province of Girona has received 3.6 million tourists, generating 15.3 overnight stays, during the months of June, July and August.

SEPTEMBER 2024

During the months of June, July and August, 3,626,646 tourists have come to the province of Girona, generating 15,341,868 overnight stays in authorised tourism accommodation establishments, according to the Tourism Observatory Eurecat. These data match almost exactly those recorded for the same period of 2023, confirming the positive evolution of tourism activity in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees destinations.

By markets, the domestic market has grown this summer, which continues to be loyal to the destination, and, of the international markets, growth has come from Great Britain, Germany, Italy, and, especially, North America. On the other hand, the Spanish and French markets have dropped slightly. Even so, the drop in the total number of arrivals has been offset by an increase in total overnight stays, confirming that visitors are tending to lengthen their stay.

By accommodation subsectors, campsites and hotels –which in total account for 13.5 million overnight stays– have increased their occupancy, in spite of a slower first fortnight of July than initially forecast. As regards the average number of nights, this remains at the same levels as the previous season in all accommodation subtypes.

The Girona-Costa Brava Airport maintains the upward trend of the last two years. In total, 904,094 passengers used the airport's facilities during June, July and August 2024, 13% more than in the same period of 2023. This gives two consecutive summers of recovery and growth, which has been particularly strong among British users.

The Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board confirms that the high season in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees has been “good” in general terms, pending the results for September and the figures for visitor expenditure.
