Provisional 2025 balance

The province of Girona received 3.5 million tourists, who generated 10 million overnight stays from January to June in 2025.

AUGUST 2025

The first six months of the 2025 season, 3,455,543 tourists have arrived in the province of Girona generating 10,061,775 overnight stays in officially registered tourist accommodation establishments, according to the Eurecat Tourism Observatory (TDS).

The collected data is practically equal to that registered in the same period of 2024, although overnight stays have increased by 1.4 %. The months of April, May and June registered the highest number of stays, highlighting the trend towards reduced seasonality among visitors. The provisional figures confirm the vitality and the stability of the tourist activity in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees destinations, pending the collection and analysis of both the summer season’s occupancy data and the economic data.

By markets, the Catalan and national markets accounted for half of the stays recorded in the first half of the year, with 5.1 million overnight stays. As for international markets, which together account for around 5 million overnight stays, the leading one is the French Market, with 1.8 million stays. They are followed by the Dutch market (654,733 overnight stays) and the British market (601,345 overnight stays), the latter showing a recovery in market share compared to previous seasons. German Tourists occupy fourth place and Belgian tourists fifth. It is also worth highlighting the 6 % increase in overnight stays by tourists from the United States in the province of Girona.

In the accommodation sectors, hotels account for half of the overnight stays recorded with 5.5 million, followed by the camping sector with 3.6 million, tourist apartments with 759,000 and rural tourism with 170,000. Regarding the average length of stay of international visitors, it stands at 3.2 nights across the different types of accommodation.

Between January and June of 2025, the Girona-Costa Brava Airport has registered 899,056 passengers, a 17 % increase during the same period in 2024. Currently, the infrastructure operates 59 routes, six more than the previous year, and connects with sixteen countries during the summer season (March-October). The number of users is forecast to increase.

The Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board notes that the high season in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees has been ‘good’ overall, pending the data for July, August and September, as well as figures on tourist spending by visitors.
