The Pirineu de Girona on the Internet

Gary Arndt, a top travel blogger from the USA, returns to the area to discover the Pirineu de Girona.

MARCH 2014

Following the first Costa Brava Girona international blogtrip, promoted and organised by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona in May, consisting of a visit by sixteen international bloggers to the Costa Brava destination that generated more than 14 million Twitter impressions around the world in just nine days, several travel and food bloggers have already visited or have scheduled visits to the destination to discover its values, resources and tourism offer, which they subsequently comment on in social networks. More than 50 posts have been written to date, 20 of which have also been published on the lonely Planet website, the world's leading online travel and tourism media outlet.

The American blogger Gary Arndt is one of the world's leading travel influencers. His blog, a guide based on his experiences in several countries all over the world during four years of uninterrupted travel, boasts 100,000 readers every month. He also has a popular Twitter profile. Arndt visited the Costa Brava halfway through May, when he stopped off in Barcelona following a cruise around the Mediterranean. During his short stay on the Costa Brava he visited Girona, Figueres, Begur and Pals, among other places. Following that visit he described the Costa Brava as "one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world", despite being familiar with beaches in exotic locations such as Australia, Thailand or Indonesia. Arndt was equally impressed by the area's history, heritage and culture.

On this occasion, following a stay in the Valencia area to see the F1 Grand Prix and a visit to Andorra, he returned to the area to discover its hinterland and the Pyrenees. From 5th to 8th July, the blogger discovered and experienced the nature, culture and gastronomy of the Pirineu de Girona during an intense schedule of activities that took in the hidden lakes of La Cerdanya, the city of Puigcerdà, the Vall de Núria ski and mountain resort and the volcanic area of La Garrotxa. He was able to sample several traditional dishes prepared by the Pyrenean Cuisine of Cerdanya and Volcanic Cuisine associations and met tourism technicians and professionals to discuss proposals and discover special places, curious facts and anecdotes related to the area and its people. Gary Arndt will publish articles, comments, photographs and videos on his blog.
