MAY 2014

The starting signal for the cruise season for Ports de la Generalitat, the company which manages Catalonia’s ports, came with the arrival of the Zenith cruise liner. Cruise numbers will reach a new high this year. From now until November, the Costa Brava Cruise Ports of El Baix Empordà and Roses, together with the port of Sant Carles de la Ràpita (which will receive cruise passengers for the first time), will welcome 53 stopovers and 41,000 passengers. This represents an increase of 32% in cruise passenger numbers. These visitors are expected to generate an impact of 3 million euros for the tourist industries of the Costa Brava and Terres de l'Ebre. More than half of the ships berthing in Palamós will carry an average of 1,400 passengers. Cruise Tourism
