Empordà Wine Route

The Empordà Wine Route Product Club is unveiled, aimed at boosting local food and wine tourism and adding value to the Costa Brava destination.

MARCH 2014

The Patronat de Turisme is behind the setting up of the Empordà Wine Route Product Club, the goal of which is to bring together, structure and market the various tourism resources and services of interest in the wine-growing area of Empordà and to obtain the seal of quality of the ACEVIN (Spanish Association of Wine Cities) to add value to the Costa Brava destination.

On 25th June the ground rules for the setting up of the Empordà Wine Route Product Club were presented at the Espelt de Vilajuïga wine cellar to 60 representatives of the local public and private tourism sector involved in the world of viticulture, restaurants, activities and catering etc.

Some of the ground rules have already been put in place by the ACEVIN, which establishes the regulatory protocol for obtaining this prestigious Spanish certification, while the other requirements are established by the Patronat de Turisme, as in the case of its existing product clubs: Golf, Healthy and Beauty, and Nature-Active.

Empordà Wine Route Product Club

The club will serve as a platform for public - private collaboration driven forward by the Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona and with the support of the Regulatory Council of the DO Empordà and the county councils of Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà. The purpose of this platform is to bring together, integrate, structure and market the various tourism resources and services of interest in the wine-growing area of Empordà. The club will bring together, on a voluntary basis, companies related to the food and wine sector in Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà, including organisations and companies such as: DO Empordà wine cellars, specialised wine stores, wine bars and restaurants, museums and interpretation centres, wine therapy treatment centres, tourism offices and towns, accommodation companies, theme-based leisure companies, tour guides and inbound tourism agencies, etc.

The member companies of the club will be given a specific action and promotion plan, coordinated and co-funded by the club members and the Patronat de Turisme itself. The plan will encompass the organisation of press and familiarisation trips, workshops and presentations.

A catalogue of companies and specific products will be published, aimed at both professionals from the sector and end customers, while a new tourism offer portal will be created and the club will participate in national and international product fairs. Offline and online advertising campaigns will be implemented, along with professional training and specific techniques, among other things.

The club will have a members' assembly composed of all the members and will operate on the basis of round table groups that will set the guidelines and actions to be implemented over the course of the year. As regards funding, the action plan will be co-funded by the Patronat de Turisme and the club members.
