The Costa Brava San Miguel Gastronomic Tour gets under way

GironaTemps de Flors (flower season) and the Terra de Mar maritime festival in Palamós are the first stops on the Costa Brava San Miguel Gastronomic Tour.

MARCH 2014

The city of Girona is the first of twelve towns and cities to host the Costa Brava San Miguel Gastronomic Tour. The city’s Plaça de la Independència was the chosen venue for the weekend of 9th and 10th May. Tasters of dishes from the Costa Brava Menu were served, accompanied by San Miguel beer. The restaurants that took part in this first stop of the tour were El Pati Verd (Hotel Carlemany), Albareda, La Penyora and Alemanys 3, all from Girona, La Formiga, from Porqueres, La Plaça de Madremanya, from Madremanya, and the Empordà Gastronomic School.

The second venue to host the tour’s 24m2 stand will be Palamós port, on 28th, 29th and 30th May. Local restaurants will offer tasters to those visiting the “Palamós, Terra de Mar” festival, an event dedicated to the dissemination and preservation of maritime heritage which takes place every two years, organised by the town’s Fishing Museum.

Through this new promotional initiative, consisting of the matching of beer and good cuisine in the setting of traditional and significant popular festivals and events that take place in the towns of the Costa Brava, the Patronat de Turisme continues to promote local gastronomy, on this occasion with the collaboration of San Miguel, a sponsor of the Centenary of the Costa Brava. From May to September, twelve towns will host the 24 m2 travelling stand at which tasters of the most typical local dishes will be offered. The participating towns and cities are Girona, Palamós, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Roses, Palafrugell, Llançà, Blanes, Lloret de Mar, Cadaqués, Tossa de Mar, Begur and Castelló d'Empúries.

To highlight the standout features of each festival and event covered by the Gastronomic Tour, the Ondarambla radio station has scheduled eleven discussion programmes. They will be broadcast from the towns included in the tour and guests will be invited to talk about the special characteristics of each event: their most significant features and stories or anecdotes related to the town. The programmes, hosted by Eduard Cid, are broadcast live on Friday from 12 to 2 p.m.
