The Centenary in the Area

The Centenary remains present in the area through various cultural and sporting events such as the Mediterranean Week of Responsible Recreational Fishing and the Art Route, amongst others.

MARCH 2014

The Mediterranean Week of Responsible Recreational Fishing was held in Roses from 28th August to 6th September. This activity, included in the events schedule of the Centenary of the Costa Brava, also coinciding with the centenary of the Catalan Association for Responsible Fishing, led to the initiative of tagging a tuna fish with the name “Costa Brava” during the Tagging Day organised by biologists supervising young tuna trolling.

Furthermore, coinciding with the celebration of the Centenary of the Costa Brava, Girona Provincial Council organised the Costa Brava Centenary Roller Hockey Trophy on 12th and 13th September in which four Girona teams took part (Shum Maçanet, CH Lloret, Sather Blanes and Sidorme Hotels GEiEG), which this season compete in the OK League, Spain’s top hockey division.

Enric Vilert, President of the Patronat de Turisme and of the Girona Provincial Council, declared at the press conference that the aim of the tournament was to celebrate two unique aspects: the sporting successes of local hockey and the Centenary of the Costa Brava brand, an established and recognised name throughout the world.

Blanes won the Costa Brava Centenary Trophy by beating GEiEG 5-3 in the final.

Meanwhile, with special focus on the Centenary of the Costa Brava, the town of Castelló d'Empúries is organising the “Art Route”, a route where art, culture and history merge together. The second Art Route is being held from 9th to 12th October. Seventy-five artists are expected to participate in twenty-one exhibition venues, including the Ecomuseum-La Farinera, the Convent of Santa Clara, the Macelli Palace, the Basilica de Santa Maria, Ca l’Ametlla, Can Contreras and the Old Prison.
